The 6th Jamaica Diaspora Conference (JDC) was launched recently at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel under the theme ‘Jamaica and the Diaspora: Linking for Growth and Prosperity.”
The JDC, convened by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, was first staged in 2003 and has been held biennially since in an effort to bring together Jamaicans all over the globe. With as many Jamaicans worldwide as on the island the Ministry recognized that Jamaica is truly a borderless country and in order to continue growing as a nation and, among other goals, achieve our Vision 2030 objective we must have conversation and collaboration. As said by our President and CEO, Richard Powell, Chairman of the Conference Preparatory Committee, “Jamaica’s reality is that we cannot single-handedly steer our country to financial independence without the assistance of Jamaicans worldwide.”
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, AJ Nicholson in his in his keynote address on behalf of the unavoidably absent, Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller said, “As Jamaicans, no matter where we reside, we will always remain committed to our beloved nation. This has been demonstrated in a number of ways.” The Victoria Mutual family will always remain proud and appreciative of our opportunity to play our part. #VMProud #JDC2015
